This library grows through contributions from practitioners — designers, developers, researchers, and anyone who has wrestled with decentralized technology. You don’t need to be a developer, and you don’t need to write a polished page. Half-formed is fine; that’s what the stub status is for.
Ten minutes is enough
Have a pattern in mind, or a problem you keep running into? Open an issue — there’s a short form for each:
- Propose a pattern — you know a pattern (a name, the problem, the solution, examples you’ve seen) but aren’t ready to write the whole page. A maintainer or another contributor can pick it up from there.
- Request a pattern — you keep hitting a design problem and want the community to work out a pattern for it.
Spotted a mistake or a gap on an existing page? Every page has an “Edit this page on GitHub” link at the bottom — fix it right in your browser.
Write a pattern
A pattern is a single Markdown file. Copy the template, fill in the frontmatter, write what you can, and open a pull request — the homepage and topic pages update themselves. Images are optional; a placeholder invites someone else to illustrate it later.
New patterns start as stubs and mature as the community fills them in — submitting a stub is a real contribution, not a half-finished one. The contributing guide has the details, including how to preview the site locally if you want to.
Governance
Our core values are mutual respect, curiosity, human-centric approaches, and inclusion. Decent Patterns is maintained by volunteers; the Maintainers hold decision-making power and set community policy, taking reasonable account of input from contributors. Participation is open to anyone. We follow the Berlin Code of Conduct. All contributions are licensed under CC0, and all code is open source.
